National League is a club-based series of 3 tournaments of multiple grades. A-grade is very high level play, including all the top New Zealand players, and has separate tournaments from the lower grades. B-grade is a tough level, with many teams of players playing off for the more achievable prize of B-grade winners. C-grade ranges between new players to social teams. The 3 tournaments are usually set between March and June, with a lot of teams also traveling for the Summer Tournaments around the country, the most popular being Atahua, played in Palmerston North.
A-grade: Runs over 3 weekends in March, April and May in Christchurch, Lower North Island and Upper North Island.
B-grade and C-grade: Runs over 3 weekends in April, May, June (Queens Birthday Weekend) with all 3 competitions being held in the North Island for the North Island teams, in the final competition held over Queens Birthday weekend the South Island teams join in after having their first 2 competitions in the South Island
